We’re Seeing a Renaissance, Right Here in Nelson!

Maybe you’ve seen a concert or two at the Odeon, or had the chance to visit the new tasting room in Nelson Farms. Or maybe you’ve eaten at Mad Tacos. We’re building on this renaissance. We’re working to make Nelson Corners a destination – as it was decades ago and is becoming again – by acquiring the Magee antique shop and building on its history as a drover’s tavern. The building was once a stop for stage coaches and cattle drovers doing business along what is now the Route 20 corridor. Later, it was a post office. The antique shop is closed now, and the building, from the outside, is tired and worn.

Oh, but the inside! The foundation is solid under wide plank wood floors and original built-in woodwork in the parlors. The inside has such potential. We know this building can be a thriving destination once again – a tavern, a café , a place to gather with friends and family, and more perhaps ...

And we want you to be part of this renaissance. We know there is real work to be done to help the building reach its potential as the historic landmark it is – and your involvement can help this vision become reality.

The first steps have been taken. We have created a nonprofit organization to restore the property and get the property listed on the National Register of significant historic buildings. That will allow us to apply for public and private grants for renovation and revitalization work.

Every donation takes us, the generous community in and around the Town of Nelson, that much closer to bringing the property back to life. No donation is too small.  Our current specific funding needs can be found here.

Please work with us to revive another community memory by helping save the Old Drovers Tavern @ Nelson, NY.

Thank you for your generosity in making this vision possible, and for being a part of the Nelson renaissance.
